Christian Bale's rant on the set of Terminator: Salvation has finally gone viral, and opinions range from abject embarassment to complete disappointment with the normally rather subdued Batman star.
However, assistant director Bruce Franklin has spoken out in support of the actor. He told Eonline that Bale is normally extremely professional, but was just having a bad day.
"If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove... It was the most emotional scene in the movie," said Franklin. "And for him to get stopped in the middle of it. He is very intensely involved in his character. He didn't walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed.
"This was my second movie with Christian, and it has always been a good experience with him," he continued. "He is so dedicated to the craft. I think someone is begging to make some noise about this, but I don't think it's fair. The art of acting is not paint by numbers, it's an art form."
Many bloggers still think Bale went a little over the top, despite the crew member's error. Some critics have even claimed this is a symptom of the actor's history of cocaine abuse.
On the tape Bale yells at Director of Photography Shane Hurlbut after the DP accidentally walks into his scene. Among other things, the actor screams: "I want you off the set! You prick! No, don't just be sorry! Think for one f--king second! What the f--k are you doing? Are you professional or not?"
Well, Bale, you obviously are not.
The 35-year-old star of the new 'Batman' franchise was recently in the news for another incident involving his temper. On July 22, 2008 he reportedly verbally assaulted his mother and his sister, who called authorities. He was held for four hours and released on bail, with police later saying they would take no further action against him.
Hopefully these two incidences are exceptions in Bale's future career. Otherwise, he might have to kiss his hefty pay cheque goodbye.

1. Who cares? He's a great actor who does great work. He's not going to lose parts because of this, come on! When Bill O'Riely goes on a rant and is cought on camera, nobody cares, nobady says he's gonna lose work. The writing of this article seems to be from the pencil of a elementary student. You get mad at Bale being "unprofessional", yet you neglect to see that your own peice of writing seems very "unprofessional". Write something that has some real value to it that will make people think not media driven garbage.

2. @quamarcarsenal: Who cares? A lot of people care. Many people don't want to support arrogant, abusive jerks, and rightly so.

3. I agree, who cares?! Its too bad someone was recording those commesnts, because they were not meant for public ears. People who are passionate about their work can loose there temper from time to time. Thats the whole point, your pouring your heart into something, and if youve never done that, then you can never understand. I am willing to bet any sports coach on any professional team has yelled at their players just like that. Thats why its done behind closed doors. People need to stop looking for things to tear someone down with, and just enjoy the art! And he is one of the celebrities that try to keep their lives personal. I dont know Mr. Bale, but i doubt he is a "jerk". But what I can see is that he loves his trade, and takes it very seriously. So now that we see that he IS human, lets just move on.
